Mexico Geography

The Republic of Mexico’s consists of 31 states and one federal district. It is the eighth largest nation in the world. To the north the country is bordered by the United States, to the southeast – by Belize and Guatemala. To the west and south it’s bordered by the Pacific Ocean. Mexico has two deserts. The largest is the Chihuahuan desert, located between the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental mountain ranges. The second is the Sonoran desert, situated in the northwestern region of the mainland. The climate of Mexico is generally dry and temperate. In the northern part the mountain peaks are often capped with snow. In the east there are regular rainfalls, while south of the country is hot and humid all year long.
