Mexico is a country bursting with life, it is felt practically everywhere. Mexico City, the capital, is a great starting point for learning more about the country. Because of high density of the population Mexico City is considered to be a huge megalopolis. It should be said that it is the second largest metropolitan area in the Americas and the third largest in the world. The country's extraordinary history, which is partly American, partly Spanish is reflected in the architecture. The majority of interesting buildings is located on Mexico City's main square - the Zocalo. It is used for festivals, cultural events and demonstrations. The word “Zocalo” means pedestal, or stand. The huge building sinking into the ground attracts the attention of the tourists. It is the Metropolitan Cathedral, famous for its impressive interior as well as its incredible exterior. The main attraction of the eastern side of the Zocalo is National Palace with the Great Temple situated nearby.
One of the most popular cities of Mexico is Acapulco. It is associated with numerous beaches, luxurious hotels, and glittering nightlife. Since the 1950s tourism has been the number-one industry in Acapulco. Do not hesitate and visit the Spanish-built city of Oaxaca. It has top-class museums but from the other hand it is popular because of its flourishing markets with a special atmosphere and some excellent samples of colonial architecture. Another place to enjoy the architecture is the city of Puebla, which is home to more than 70 churches. Patzcuaro should be visited on November 2. It is the very time when candlelit Day of the Dead is celebrated. The tourists can see the graveyards lit with candles, take part in traditional dances and performances. Without any doubts one of the most interesting places to visit in Mexico is Yucatan Peninsula, where the Maya live today, where their ancestors lived a millennium ago.
